Acoustilay is a highly versatile and user-friendly acoustic flooring system that is suitable for installation in various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial environments. It can be installed under a wide range of floor finishes, making it a versatile choice for many different projects. There are three different grades of Acoustilay available, all of which offer excellent impact noise performance, effectively reducing sound from footsteps, dropped items, and moving furniture.

The heavier Acoustilay 8 and 15 products also provide additional benefits, reducing airborne noise such as TV, music, and speech, when used on timber, joisted substrates. This makes Acoustilay an excellent choice for meeting Part E of the Building Regulations, which require resistance to the passage of sound in both new build and conversion projects.

Some of the key benefits of Acoustilay include:

  • Improving the acoustic performance of timber and concrete substrates
  • Being suitable for use beneath a variety of floor finishes
  • Being easily cut and shaped to fit any space
  • Minimizing the increase in floor level, making it a great option for retrofit projects
  • Being quickly and easily installed, saving time and effort on installation
  • Meeting Part E of the Building Regulations
  • Allowing access to existing floors, reducing the need for additional construction work
  • Having recyclable content, making it an environmentally friendly option
  • Being 100% sourced and manufactured in the UK, ensuring quality and supporting local businesses
  • Providing a solution for noisy neighbors, reducing noise transmission between floors.

Application & Installation

  • Installation
    • The Acoustilay perimeter strips should be nailed or glued around the perimeter of the room with the barrier layer facing down and the acoustic seal, compressed by two thirds, to the wall or skirting board.
    • Carpet gripper rods should be nailed in place on top of the perimeter strip, raising them to the correct height to take the carpet.
    • Acoustilay panels should be tightly butted up to the perimeter detail, and loose laid in a brick bond pattern onto the floor.
    • Ensure that there are no gaps between the Acoustilay and the Perimeter Strips or between the Acoustilay panels themselves.
    • When installing Acoustilay beneath vinyl flooring, carpet tiles, or bonded carpet, it is necessary to install Acoustilay MDF between them due to the resilient nature of the product.
    • Acoustilay MDF prevents point loading and joint damage to the floor finish and also aids installation in the case of bonded carpet and carpet tile finishes.
    • In all non-domestic environments, such as offices, hospitals, and schools, it is recommended that Acoustilay MDF is installed onto the Acoustilay regardless of the floor finish.
    • Installing Acoustilay MDF will eliminate the risk of the carpet rucking under wheeled furniture and protect both the floor finish and Acoustilay from heavy traffic wear.
