Karma Overlay 23 is a top-performing acoustic floor panel that boasts an impressive performance to height ratio. The product is composed of an 18mm tongued and grooved P5 chipboard and a 5mm cross-linked polyolefin foam resilient layer. With Karma Overlay 23, you can enjoy exceptional impact and airborne sound insulation all in one package. It is versatile and can be used on an existing floor, a new ply or chipboard floor, or directly on concrete/screed floors, making it perfect for both refurbishment and new build projects. This product is ideal for a variety of applications, including new build apartments, hotels, student accommodation, and houses with timber joist floors that require pre-completion testing. It is also an excellent choice for refurbishment projects with height restrictions, but where reliable performance is still necessary. Moreover, Karma Overlay 23 can be used in the RD FFT5 floor options for E-FC-1, E-FC-2, or E-FS-1.

Application & Installation

  • Preparation:
    • Before installation, ensure that all components are stored in a dry and covered location. The panels should be kept flat and on a level surface. It is recommended to place the materials in the environment where they will be installed at least 24 hours in advance.
    • It is important to note that the subfloor must be even with tolerances not exceeding +/- 2mm per 2 metre run. The subfloor must be clean, dry, and free from obstacles such as pipes.
    • Karma Overlay 23 can support lightweight non-load bearing partitions placed on top of the board.
    • To allow for expansion, a 2mm gap per metre run should be calculated. This gap may be created along perimeter walls, but on long runs of flooring, intermediate expansion joints may be necessary.
    • When tiling on top of Karma Overlay 23, it is important to prime the surface beforehand. Use a flexible tile adhesive and grout that are compatible with the P5 chipboard surface to accommodate any substrate movement.
  • Installation:
    • During installation, place a flanking strip of Karma 5mm thick x 100mm wide between Karma Overlay 23 and the perimeter walls and existing door frames. This will help reduce flanking sound transmission.
    • Lay Karma Overlay 23 with the grooved or cut edges facing the perimeter walls. Use the off-cut from the final panel in the first row to begin the next row. Ensure that the off-cut is at least 250mm long to start a new row. Lay the panels in a brick bond pattern.
    • While laying the boards, apply a generous amount of EVERBUILD WOOD 502 All Purpose Weatherproof Wood Adhesive to the grooves of the T&G joint and tightly butt the boards together. Wipe off any excess adhesive with a damp cloth. Avoid walking on the boards until the adhesive has dried.
  • Full installation instructions are available and must be used in conjunction when installing floor systems.
